A weekly podcast about the unprecedented public health response to the COVID 19 pandemic. Hosted by one of the leaders of that response in the State of New Jersey, each episode will highlight a different aspect of the response starting with the first chaotic days at a quickly assembled field hospital in an empty convention center. From there the story line will progress to the "whole of government" response that was designed to save lives, protect the public and support a return to post-pandemic life.
This weekly journey will be told from the perspective of those who responded, innovated, and worked tirelessly (almost always behind the scenes) to contain the pandemic, provide up to the minute information and advice to the public, and distribute tens of millions of vaccines, testing supplies, and other needed resources and support.
These interviews will highlight the amazing leadership by dedicated individuals during times of great stress and uncertainty as our understanding of the virus, resources available and the virus itself changed and evolved quickly.
David Adinaro MD is an award-winning emergency physician and healthcare leader who found himself unexpectedly helping lead New Jersey's sustained public health response to the COVID Pandemic.
His journey started at the end of March 2020 when he accepted the role of Chief Medical Officer of the 1st field hospital ever set up in the state (Field Medical Station - Secaucus). That led to accepting the governor's invitation to assume the role of Deputy Commissioner for Public Health Services in the NJ Department of Health. That made him the #2 in the DOH and the senior physician in government.
Prior to the pandemic, David spent 17 years with St. Joseph's Health located in Paterson NJ. He worked as an emergency physician and helped lead their ER which was the 3rd busiest ER in the nation with over 150,000 visits per year. His leadership positions included Chief - Emergency Medicine, Chief Medical Officer of the University Medical Center and System Chief Medical Information Officer and Patient Safety Officer.
